On 22nd June 2019 I married my boyfriend of 9 years, Fred. We had the most magical day surrounded by family and friends. I hesitated whether to post something so personal on my blog however there were so many people who made the day so special for us and I really want to shout about them from the rooftops! If you’re here for cashmere content , perhaps best to skip this blog entry. However if you’re planning a wedding in South Scotland or Northumberland here is a list of fantastic suppliers who I cannot recommend highly enough.
I should also say all photos belong to me and were taken by the brilliant Melissa Beattie. Please do not repost without consent or the correct credits to me & Melissa.
Photographer – Melissa Beattie – I found Melissa on Rock My Wedding and I really don’t think I could have found a better photographer to capture our wedding day. I adore Melissa’s photography style – the light, the gorgeous colours, the informal romance of her style and attention to detail. So I was delighted to be able to book her for our wedding. She was a delight to work with, calm, flexible, relaxed and unobtrusive, quite often I didn’t realise she was there snapping away. She captured the day perfectly and we are over the moon with our photos.
Flowers – Emma McDonald, Owner of Stems. Emma designed the flowers for our wedding and I simply cannot recommend her highly enough. From start the finish the whole experience was an absolute pleasure, her calm, kind and flexible demeanour make her such an easy and fun person to work with. I felt totally relaxed knowing she was taking care of the flowers for the big day and that it as one less thing I had to worry about. Nothing was too much trouble and she was always at the other end of the phone, email or text. Our wedding was in a church followed by a marquee reception and I wanted a relaxed countryside feel to the whole day. Emma completely got the brief and in fact she interpreted it better than I could have ever imagined. The flowers were beyond my wildest dreams. I adore foxgloves, peonies, hydrangeas and lupins and there were plenty of them. The coral peonies were stunning and Emma went to great lengths to source locally and Scottish grown flowers for which I loved. The pink hydrangea arch at the church was beautiful, the bouquets smelt and looked amazing, and the marquee was just a total showstopper!! I think every guest I spoke to said how much they loved the flowers – in short Emma knocked it out of the park!!
Marquee – Best Intent, St Boswells. We absolutely loved our wedding marquee from Best Intent and I am certain we could not have found a nicer company to work with. Steph & entire team were a pleasure to work with. They were on time, efficient, friendly and did such a beautiful job setting up our marquee. We chose a poled unlined tent for a more rustic, countryside, feel and it worked perfectly. No job or request was too small and Steph made sure everything was sorted for us. We especially loved the big wooden bar, festoon lights and gorgeous cross-back chairs she sourced for us.
Make-up – Anna Millington. I cannot recommend Anna highly enough. My three bridesmaids all wanted quite a natural look and Anna delivered just that. They all looked so gorgeous and glowing and they all said how much they enjoyed the whole experience, having never had their makeup done before. It was such a treat for all of us! She is such a professional, has an amazing kit, gave out great beauty and make-up advice and tips, was prompt and on time, easy to talk to and in general just an all round lovely person to have around on your wedding day!
Hair – Kirstie Notman. I am SO happy I booked Kirstie to do my wedding hair. She absolutely nailed it and made us all feel totally amazing. I loved my half-up/half down do and it stayed in all day! My sister loved her cool braided up do too and my bridesmaids all had amazing gentle waves. Kirstie was a true professional, so easy to work with, efficient, got the brief and understood what everyone wanted. She also gave my sister-in-law and my Mum gorgeous blow-dries which they both loved. My sister-in-law actually said it was the best blow dry she’d ever had!!! All in all Kirstie was an absolute dream to work with and made us all feel so relaxed and spoiled.
Menu design – My wonderful ,and exceptionally talented, friend Karen Mabon. Karen kindly designed bespoke pocket squares for Fred and all his ushers to wear. The scarves featured Daphne & Edith, our cake, my engagement ring, and of course Fred’s football team logo!! We then used this gorgeous design for our menus. I had 18 printed and there were only 3 left the day after the wedding so I think a lot of people took it home with them they must have loved it so much!
Printers – Richardson & Son, Hawick. My favourite and the only printers I use for everything for work and personal.
Gelato from Joelato – Shoutout to our friends Lucie & Joe who kindly offered to serve their delicious gelato at our wedding reception. All our guests were queuing up to get a cone of Lucie & Joe’s delicious gelato. The flavours were so inventive and unusual and perfect for a Summer’s day – Lemon Stracciatella, and Campari & Orange Sorbet – absolute perfection!!
Food – Orde Food Co. I am not even sure where to begin this review I have so many lovely things to say about their entire team! From start the finish the service we received for our wedding from them was flawless and highly professional, but also really fun and enjoyable! Justin is one of the most efficient people I have ever met and it was so relaxing for us to know that on the day of our wedding he was our highly experienced event manager, he basically kept the show on the road and made sure it was perfect for us. We couldn’t have done it without him! And the food.. oh my gosh it was SO good. I know I am biased as it was our wedding but it really was the best wedding food I’ve ever had. We were blown away at our tasting and the risotto with goat’s cheese bon bons was to die for. Justin was so accommodating of our menu suggestions and ideas during the planning stages and really helped us create something bespoke that encompassed a more sustainable approach to food. Our vegan and vegetarian options were fantastic, and we adored our hazelnut chocolate cheesecake. On top of this their staff were all charming and highly efficient when it came to setting the tables in preparation for the big day and on the day they served the food impeccably. I really could go on and on but all I’ll say is if you’re wondering who to book for your wedding or party then I can 100% recommend Orde Catering, you will not be disappointed.
Car – Borders Vintage Experience – We loved being driven away from our church service in Murray’s Bentley – such a fun experience.
Fred’s Morning Suit – Was tailored by my brother at Campbell’s of Beauly. They run a fantastic tailoring business in Beauly, Inverness-shire, and they can also take orders/measurements in London for bespoke tailoring.
Cake – Our beautiful cake was made by a local friend, Sharon Laidler, if you would like to get in touch with her about a cake commission please drop me an email firstname.lastname@example.org and I will pass on her details.
And now I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves….
